JUNE 2016: Though there are plans to restore George Boole's old house to its former glory, it seemed logical to us to at least improve it's appearance in the mean time.
The folks over at the People's Republic of Cork got the ball rolling and painted the lower facade of the bulding, covering over the graffiti and improving the look of the place no end. Then some reimagine volunteers, under the guidace our of plant expert, John O'Sullivan, got cracking on removing debris from the garden and laying down some stone chips and beuatiful plants.
A true polymath, Boole is globally recognised as one of the fathers of computer science (trivia fact: he was also married to Mary Everest who's uncle lent his name to the worlds highest mountain!). What better way for the city to pay homage to Boole than to restore his old home and to recognise his time in Cork. We can't wait to see the finished restoration work.
**UPDATE Sept 2016: Cork City Architect's Department and UCC recently commenced work to restore Boole's former home
